A trio of fuzzy lion cubs and cute tiger cub triplets are attracting summer visitors to Busch Gardens in Tampa, Florida. Getting a peek at the rambunctious youngsters is a must-do if you’re planning a summer beach vacation to nearby St. Petersburg, Clearwater, Madeira Beach or Treasure Island.
Born this spring, the rare Malayan tiger triplets are growing fast in mother Bzui’s care. Tiger cubs gain about 2 pounds a week with adult males topping the scales at 340 pounds when they’re full grown, so the cubs won’t be little for long. Look for the cubs in the Jungala area this summer.
Three lion cubs, two sisters and a male born to different mothers, were also born at Busch Gardens this spring. In an online poll, Facebook fans just voted to name the 3-month-old sisters Shaba, meaning “brazen,” and Shtuko, meaning “twitch.” The lion cubs have already started making appearances at the park’s Edge of Africa attraction.
The young felines aren’t the only animal youngsters at Busch Gardens this summer. Coogie the kangaroo and Mongoose lemur twins Dalia and Leena celebrated their first birthdays this spring. Now 8 months old, baby rhino Jasiri is looking fit (for a rhino) as she nears the 1,000-pound mark. Animal encounters are just part of the fun at Busch Gardens. Exciting animal shows and thrilling rides make the combination zoo and amusement park fun for the whole family.
New this summer at Busch Gardens are:
- A hilarious new show, Madagascar Live!, based on the popular animated film series;
- Summer Nights, a spectacular nightly fireworks display; and
- The thrilling new roller coaster Cheetah Hunt.
